Antique Hand Painted Bed

This is just a fun little post on an antique hand painted bed…

It all started when my dad’s wife gave me this wonderful bed for our barn guest bedroom!!

She’s a beauty and you can’t even see her all the way… It’s a big king size bed and it’s glorious!!  She was trying to make more room and have a change in her own guest bedroom…

And sometimes when you are making over a room, the bed is the perfect place to start. {Here are some more antique hand painted beds click here, here, & here}

This is what she found on the lovely Craigslist… And I know it looks perfect in this picture my dear wood loving fans, but my dad will attest to the fact that it needed much love!!

It was out of a smokers home and it had a horrible varnish job.  It had lots of deep grooves and scratches and he wood filled and sanded for days… Complaining the whole way!!

The bed was too small in his opinion but she really wanted to keep this bed so they got a conversion kit and made it work!!

She started with the favorite primer the night before I came in.

And I am so glad she did… we had a couple of pesky spots that we painted and primed and hit repeat about 4 times!!

We used Silver Mink from Maison Blanche Paint Company.  If you have been around long, you know it’s one of my favorites!!

It’s a very subtle pale gray and in the right room is just an off white with gray undertones!! The walls in this room are SW Silver Strand. Perfect Combo.

I absolutely LOVE how the paint brings out the details with subtle distressing!

And here she is the antique hand painted bed all set up!! Bedding from Stein Mart.  It’s the jumping point for finishing up the details of the room!! I can’t wait to go stay- mostly so I can go visit the new shops she has found!!

It was a great family weekend time with my dad, brother, and all of us swimming and just being together!!

One last pretty to share, she gave me this pretty mug to enjoy on my back porch!! She’s knows my heart!!

    That is so lovely! at first I was a bit skeptical of painting such a lovely piece, but it does look so great!!

    This really looks great. I agree with Rose, I was a bit worried about painting over the wood, but I really think you restored it’s beauty and it still has a classic vintage look. Love it!!
