French Armoire in American Paint Company Mama’s Lipstick

I’ve had this little French beauty waiting in the garage for me to do something with it…  I painted out her sister desk here and double dresser here… and I used the footboard to help make Mia’s bed.. but here she sat waiting her turn!!

When I decided that I needed to put some vertical storage in on this wall below in my craft room… I knew exactly where she’d go.

But wasn’t quite sure what she’d wear!!

Taking a step away from my creams and aqua’s and going bold… a little glamour anyone??

I mean what could possibly go better with American Paint Company Mama’s Lipstick than a little gold shimmer?? Very Victoria Secret don’t you think??

Well, it’s holding a lot of craft supplies so don’t let your pretty little minds go wandering off too far!!

I will let the pictures do the talking but I will answer a few questions that will come….

I base coated the entire piece in Mama’s Lipstick and then went over each of the accented areas including the spindles with a steady hand and an artist brush.  I used Modern Master’s Metallic Paints in Champagne- it’s a transparent paint so you will need a couple of coats until you get the desired look you are going for.  I wanted a heavy opaque color so I took about 4 coats to get it this beautifully shimmering gold greatness!! I finished it off with Modern Master’s Master Clear in Semi Gloss.  So many times I have clients looking for a lacquer look and demanding a high gloss paint to achieve it.  You don’t have to use latex to get a lacquer finish.  It’s all in your topcoats.  The inside is completely painted out in a mix of Warm Silver and Champagne.  Chalkboard sides for little notes to myself.  And I also hoard wrapping paper for just this occasion.  I picked up the paper on the drawers at Home Goods the other day and it worked out perfectly!! And you can see how to use Mod Podge on drawer fronts here in this post!!

And so here she is….

Hi Lori! Beautiful job! I have this exact dresser, we got it as a left over piece from the owners of a home we purchased. Do you know any more information on this piece as to what year it is? It is the same piece, a Dixie but I have been unable to find anything about it online. Thank you.
