Old Maple Dresser meets ASCP Aubusson Blue

Made over using Annie Sloan Aubusson Blue with little graphite added in to become a rich navy/gray hue.   Modern Masters Bronze metallic paint on the knobs with a bit of dark glaze just wiped over to take down the shine a bit. MB light brown wax and Fiddes Jacobean wax to add a little shadowing and antique it just so perfectly!!  I used the same quart of paint I had used back on this beautiful sofa table… {click here to see}.  I still have 1/2 a quart left after this dresser.  It only took one coat of paint!! Amazing coverage for this color!!

Kinda fitting that today I post this dresser for my dad!! I’m not sure if he’ll read it but it is Friday the 13th and well my dad has always taken any Friday the 13th off!! I always thought it was funny, but I wonder if he’s working today??  If not enjoy the makeover dad!!

My dad passed down his childhood dresser to us when they cleaned out my grandpa and grandma’s house.  I was so thrilled and honored to take it in and give it to my son.  He has Papa’s dresser now, and we decided to give it a new look!!   When the whole room is finished will do a room reveal, but for now the dresser {awesome dove tailed, solid heavy wood, by Virginia House} looks like this!!

I am so blessed that this piece has found it’s way home, to my home!! I can’t wait for the years to pass and my son be able to pass it down to his.  I’m sure it will see more paint over the years.  As my boy is a bit like his mama and loves to change things up a bit!! But it’s in the right hands!!!  I remember it sitting in my grandma’s spare room.  And every time I see it now, I will remember her reading to me.  Knowing it was my dad’s a child is special enough, but for Ethan it being papa’s even more special!! Thank you dad for giving us the memories to cherish!!

See you soon!!

  1. Love this piece and color combo as well as the history. I’m so glad to see you mention using many different brands of paint, waxes, glazes on one piece of furniture. I have my favorites in each brand and love to mix them when possible. My only negative experience was when I tried to use Annie Sloan wax on Maison Blanche Wrought Iron paint. Those 2 didn’t like each other 🙂 Otherwise, I’ve had great success in mixing my favorites.
