Outdoor Farmhouse Table

I have been in NEED of a patio table since we moved here 3 years ago… We are always off camping, so I always put it off.  But with Miss Mia bigger and playing on her play set out back, I decided NOW was the time to take it the hunt a little more serious.  I knew I wanted an outdoor farmhouse style table.  And I knew I didn’t want to pay the price of the one I wanted.

The one I wanted…. Beautiful Belgian Trestle Weathered Teak Rectangular Dining Table from Restoration Hardware. $4395 Ummmm out of budget **** update 4/12/22 it is now $9495

Having gotten a miter saw for Mother’s Day 2 years ago and loving to build things… I decided if we can conquer bunkbeds with the help of lovely Ana White I will do some digging… And there it was.  My inspiration came from 2 local sisters, the beautiful Shanty2Chic!!! You can click on the picture below to be taken directly to their site for instruction on how to build this awesome Fancy X Farmhouse table!! Or go here to Ana White’s site as well!!!

Inspiration in mind & supplies list in hand, we set off to Lowe’s.  The only difference in our build is that we used pressure treated wood.  So the final cost was slightly more than theirs.  But we only spent $126 total with all things needed. Awesome huh???  And we LOVE it!! It took us a little over a  short evening to build and full afternoon to stain and wash total.  Not bad at all!!  I already have the need to build a matching bench or two… and I didn’t put the middle pieces in as I want to hunt down some wrought iron pieces, old tin, or antique wooden corbels… That’s when I have time to hunt…

Here’s how ours turned out!!

We got to use a new tool to us… I found a full Kreg Jig Master Toolbox kit on sale at Lowes for $149 and snatched it up.  I think it was mismarked… why??? Because they retail for $209. It was fun to use and hides your screws allowing them to go in where you need at an angle!! So cool.

I used Cabot stain in Jarrah Brown {let the hubs pick} all over.  It has a sealant in it already.  I did 2 coats.  I then made a wash with MMS Ironstone- very thin.  Brush on a thick coat and took a wet rag after a few seconds {it was hot and drying fast} and wiped off.  I wanted it too have that weathered look on the top- the patio is in full sun most of the late day and evening. Which is our hottest part of the day here in TX.  So everything will weather naturally, I just helped it a bit!!  I didn’t want chippy, just a nice soft wash.

fresh-cut-hydrangeas

Don’t you love those fresh cut hydrangeas.  I do!! One of my favorites.  And with proper cutting and ample water they can last up to 2 weeks in arrangements!!

I love using this pitcher for them… But I have a trick so not to ruin it with water.

empty-pitcher

Empty pitcher inside and fill it with this…. It holds the blooms tight and gives them plenty of water without messing with the inside of your silver pitcher.

Side note- my husband asked me if I wanted to clean the pitcher’s outside.  I laughed and said that’s what I love about it most!!

I am not done with our patio or backyard yet.  We have been so busy with lots of project and out of town.  But we will be cleaning it up and I am on the hunt for an outdoor rug.  Ready for school to be out and summer to come!!

  19. […] Lori from Vintage Charm Restored had visions of dining al fresco while her daughter enjoyed playing on her playset. The only problem? Lori still didn’t have a patio table after three years living in her home. Having acquired a love for building things and already conquered bunk beds with the help of Ana White, Lori felt confident tackling her own outdoor dining table. Again, it was Ana White to the rescue with plans for a trestle style farmhouse table just like Lori wanted but for thousands less! […]
